About the Author

In 2020...

Seema enrolled into an MFA program to finally begin work on her book.

Seema Dhawan is a journalist who has contributed to Uber, USA TODAY, WestJet Magazine, and Huffington Post Alberta, where she was an editor. She is enrolled in the University of King’s College MFA program and frequently reports on stories that take readers on an Indian adventure. She recently wrote about why travelers visit an Indian city for pickles for Condé Nast Traveler.

As a journalist, Seema frequently writes stories that bring people home. When she wrote about how Bollywood turned Switzerland into a beloved destination for generations of Indian travellers, readers poured in to say they felt the same way, while others finally understood the connection.  She has also reported on millennials, including first-generation Canadians, who were looking for opportunities outside North America, often moving back to the countries their parents left behind. Some wrote in to say they had considered doing the same and were pleasantly surprised they weren’t the only ones, while parents related to the anguish of your child leaving behind a life you spent decades building.

It is these stories that intrigue Seema and she hopes to bring readers to her home through The Pickle Empire, so they can go on a journey of their own.
